Visit one of the most artistically rich and beautiful regions of Italy: Tuscany. Stay in Florence and explore the local architecture, arts, wines and foods by day trips to the most picturesque towns including: Siena, San Gimignano and Pisa.
Wednesday, November 27
Depart from NAS I (CDC parking lot) at 4:30 a.m. for the Catania Airport for a 6:00 a.m. flight to Rome. Fly from Rome and arrive in Florence at 10:50 a.m. After landing, transfer by bus to Pisa where you can explore the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and Miracoli Square on your own with some help from your tour escorts. After your departure from Pisa, be transported to Hotel Alinari in Florence. You will check-in and meet with the Community Recreation tour escorts to receive an orientation tour of the area. Dinner will be on your own.
Thursday, November 28
After breakfast at the hotel, we will take a walking tour in the heart of Florence with a local guide. Next, we will stop in the Tuscan countryside for Thanksgiving lunch at the famous Verrazzano Winery (www.verrazzano.com.). In the evening you will have dinner on your own.
Friday, November 29
After breakfast, depart the hotel to visit two beautiful and historically rich locations: San Giamignano and Siena. First will be the town of San Gimignano, where we will explore medieval towers. Second, will be the town of Siena, where we’ll tour the splendid Piazza del Campo and the 12th century Cathedral. We will return to Florence around 7:00 p.m. for dinner on your own.
Saturday, November 30
Spend the day on your own exploring Florence. There will be free time to shop the famous Florentine leather shops, daily market, and the city’s outstanding museums.
Sunday, December 1
After breakfast and check-out, depart the hotel for the city of Lucca. After exploring the ancient city walls and rich renaissance of the area, you will depart to the airport for a 7:15 p.m. flight from Florence to Rome. Fly from Rome to the Catania Airport with an 11:00 p.m. arrival. Return to NAS I around midnight.
